Władysław Kowalski (1870-1940) was one of the leaders and mentors of the Polish diaspora in Harbin. With his suprem flair for business, early in his career, Kowalski went into brokerage in the sales of lumber, a key material for the construction of railroads. In 1911, he received the firs licence for processing wood from the forests of Manchuria.
